‘A clay in the distance’ (sound installation)

Anxiety and depression create a spatially strange state of mind. A person within the condition experiences different distance from those two feelings. Being lost there, people start to self-isolate themselves, and they become withdrawal called Hikikomori.

In this piece, this state of mind is spatially visualized with sounds. It is experienced by walking through the space with two different sounds, sound effect made by wadding cotton and the distance they create.

It was inspired by artist’s own experience of conversation based counseling sessions, which help to look at very personal and subjective experience objectively and to analyze it.
